Firenze..London

So yes, back on this blog after half a year (almost?) I have been tres busy with uni as usual. Last term saw me struggle through with the group project, which luckily is now over and I get to keep a very nice cardigan that I made for the group (9 people..). Photos of that will be posted up sometimes soon, when I have decided to take a photoshoot with all the random bits and pieces I have knitted/made throughout the year.

Anyway, back to the title, yes, we went to Florence for a week back in January for Pitti Filati and it was AMAZING! I have not seen so much yarn samples and companies together in my life before. It was so refreshing to be outside of london and see what the rest of the world and industry was up to.

So there’s always a twist. never just a trip. We had to design a collection based on knit swatches which we developed from research made from any inspiration we had in Florence.

I really liked the idea of clothes hanging off the wall, the idea of soft and hard, and I also really liked the decorative walls outside the Duomo, so I drew inspiration from those and worked mainly with beading my swatches. I really enjoy the process and liked the outcome. Although I know for a fact I could have done more and had more ideas, but up to date, I think this project I have been able to explore and expand on my ideas the most. Unfortunately I have not had the time to make a garment for this project (Had to write an essay about cosmetic surgery and whether it’s a modern necessity for tomorrow), but I have done illustrations . and as a twist, I have scanned in my swatches and ‘coloured’ in my illustrations with them, indicating what the garments would look like if they were to be made, for real.
I am also going to put up some photos which I likes and took from Florence.

Emma Bell AW 09/10

Earlier this year, I was approached by Emma Bell to create two knitwear pieces for her collection. She had the overall vision so we went yarn shopping and I came up with the final design. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the fashion show with Vauxhall Fashion Scout but I managed to find pictures on the internet, thanks to MegaMegaMega, so enjoy these photos. Oh and the outfits were worn by the Twins from Big Brother. πŸ™‚

Metamorphsis… Yellow babies…

Phew! Finally, last week of term before holiday time! πŸ˜€ Very very happy indeed… So sorry for the delays, here is my Metamorphsis knit project, which I had my inspiration from Tracy Emin’s My Abortion sketch. From that point, I went on to researching about pregnancy and different types of foetus. My final designs are more inspired by the lumps like shapes, indicating that idea of losing parts of the babies (?) and also with panels, depicting the spine, because it is the strongest yet the weakest part of your body! The colour scheme was choosen because I wanted to stay away from the red and goriness, so I took the black and white from Ultrasound and the yellow as a little personal touch, signifying the colour of life, the umbilical cord. Again, many thanks for Aiko for modelling for me! Enjoy the photos, the illustrations are in a post further down πŸ™‚

Busy busy busy…

So I am back to Uni now… but I felt like as if I have not had a holiday yet… at least not until the end of feburary…

I have been knitting many pieces fo Ada Zanditon (http://www.adaz.co.uk) for her A/W ’09. She is an ethical fashion designer, and works only with organic and ethical material. I have had the chance to work with pure black Alpaca from Scotland. ManyΒ  many hand knitted panels of basket weave XD

And now, I am also helping Emma Bell (http://www.myspace.com/dollydressup) with three of her knitted Intarsia pieces.

Both of the designers whom I am working for will be showing in LFW. Ada will be exhibiting in Estethica in the main tent for 4 days, and Emma Bell will be having a catwalk with Vauxhall again on the Tuesday. (Ada might also be having a catwalk too, but that is not confirmed)

Above all that, I now have college and I have the pleasure to receive tutorials and help from Jessica Quinton from Quinton-Chadwick. I am really looking forward to this project as well as the rest of the term!

Oh, almost forgot, King’s college organise fashion show every year, in Kensington Roof Garden (Yes, very very posh), and most years they will borrow items of clothing from boutiques, high street stores as well as designers to show case and invite many people, including Models and Fashion designer Scouts. This year, they have invited me to design a collection to show, and it is going to be on the 24th of Feb, Tuesday, 7pm.
I am really looking forward to it, I am really grateful that I already have the opportunity to show to a bigger audience than last time so I must put 120% of thoughts and energy into this!!!

Anyway, back to my knitting.
