Toile for the architecture

It has been quite a while since I updated here. Easter holiday has flew by, and the term has started again. Only the second day in and we have received two new briefs already. The first one is the usual competition brief, this year, we are asked to illustrate a design for the London Fashion WeekEnd tote bag, inspired by the theme ‘Only in London’. I have vague idea of what I want to do, but my illustrations are not great, plus my style is not the usual Tanya Ling or David Downton… so we’ll see how it turns out.

And the second project, was quite a shock actually, because first years usually don’t get 2 projects, but this one is for a boy who was stabbed in East London in August, 2008. He was due to enroll in BA fashion design with Print at CSM the same time as us, so we are creating and DIY-ing T-shirts for money raising, for the medical attention he is needed from now on, because he is paralyzed from neck down.

Anyway, enough about that, I just realised that I haven’t uploaded any photos from my Jersey Project yet, so here it goes. We had to create 6 looks in 3 weeks time, inspired by anything, but mainly to create a sillouhette. However one of the key word was body conscious, so I decided to play with that. I chose Santiage Calatrava’s Architecture because they are just amazing! And I made 7… had some extra time 🙂

So both I and Aiko modeled. Please excuse my terrible modeling 🙂
Enjoy

Metamorphsis… Yellow babies…

Phew! Finally, last week of term before holiday time! 😀 Very very happy indeed… So sorry for the delays, here is my Metamorphsis knit project, which I had my inspiration from Tracy Emin’s My Abortion sketch. From that point, I went on to researching about pregnancy and different types of foetus. My final designs are more inspired by the lumps like shapes, indicating that idea of losing parts of the babies (?) and also with panels, depicting the spine, because it is the strongest yet the weakest part of your body! The colour scheme was choosen because I wanted to stay away from the red and goriness, so I took the black and white from Ultrasound and the yellow as a little personal touch, signifying the colour of life, the umbilical cord. Again, many thanks for Aiko for modelling for me! Enjoy the photos, the illustrations are in a post further down 🙂

Metamorphsis Knit

From my previous post, I posted illustrations from my Metamorphsis Knit project which has ended already. I am a little bit annoyed that I didn’t do as well I have hoped, but it came all together. And I just took some photos of the two outfits on my mannequin. I shall be doing a photoshoot soon, but here’s a little preview.

My first outfit, made with yellow jersey, and black acrylic wool. I need the stripes of black with a little ruffle along the way once in a while inspired by the spine of human.

My second look which is completely knitted on my machine. My first time drafting out a pattern as well as using a punchcard, but I have to tell you it was fun. It is made with yellow acrylic wool, and the pattern is with black wool and white elastic, so it’s really tight and fitted around the torso area.

Currently I am on the new project, which is to make 6 jersey toiles in 3 weeks. We have had one and a half week already and I am on my 4th toile, so I am doing ok. My inspiration for this project is from the Liege Railway Station designed by Santiago Calatrava. I love architecture. And with jersey and draping I can create so much with it. However, I didn’t want to just drape on the body, I wanted to push the boundary slightly so I am actually doing lot more paneling on the body. We didn’t have to have an inspiration or source or research but we were given 5 words and it included Body conscious, Angular and Sculptural.  Immediately my head sprung to this particular piece of architecture because he was inspired by the woman’s body for the arch and curve of the building. Photos for this project will be coming up soon.

Oh, and I have been busy preparing the last parts for my A/W09 for the 24th of Feburary at the Kensington Roof Garden with King’s college. Hopefully everything will be alright and straight forward. I did some quick test shoots the other day just to show the people what the pieces should look like and worn, and here are some of the pieces. I have 8 looks in total. And I have managed to make all this in 1 month and a half and I am quite proud (because I wasn’t told about this until the beginning of January)

Anyway, must get back to work, bon nuit.
