I’m alive..

So, I am alive.. I have just been away on holiday (It’s so nice to see my parents after a year) and catching up with placement and so on

Anyway, I have been back in London for nearly a month now and thought I’d update with some photos from my shoot.

I have FINALLY managed to get the model and photographer together for the shoot, so thanks.

Photographer: Aiko

This was the knitwear lingerie shoot. The collection was inspired by Marie Antoinette.

And then it’s my summer project, based on Cornelia Parker’s pornographic photography and her installation, I created this knitted jacket along with some shoes.

And right now what am I up to?

I am currently helping Craig Lawrence with his S/S collection. He will be exhibiting with New Gen in Fashion week. He has a promotion video done and should be released soon. Also photos too. I am so grateful that I am working with him. For those of you who are not aware, he graduated from Fashion Knitwear BA, Central St Martins in 2008,  and had exhibited with New Gen and done a catwalk with Vauxhall back in Feburary.
This is his blog, check it out! 🙂

Anyway, that’s it for now! 🙂

Chunky…

Gosh… It’s been way too long since I last updated! So much have happened in these past few months, competitions, new projects, photoshoots, helping final year… Where do I start?

Well first of all, in the Easter Holiday I was allocated with a Final Year at CSM Knitwear, and we would be helping them all the way through to the graduate show which was two weeks ago. I was paired with Frida Hulten (Who will be working at Mulberry after she graduates! :D) Her collection was really interesting! Lots of round and bubble shape, I was lucky enough to knit a dress and half a jacket for her, and really got to perfect my skills on the machines (both domestic AND industrial! It was scary…)

And after that, we were given two competitions, one was to design a fashion illustration for the tote bags in London Fashion WeekEnd, and the other was to create a T-shirt using an existing one, in hopes to raise money for Oliver, a boy who was going to enroll into our year for Fashion Print but was stabbed in East London and therefore need money for medication for the rest of his life (as he is paralyzed from neck down)
So here are photos and scans for these things.

And the shirt, we could do anything so I decided to stick with my knitwear background and do something knitted…. I don’t know if it was sold or anything, I was really busy that day so didn’t manage to go to the one-day only exhibition.. Apparently it was not there from very early on, so either it’s sold already, they lost it… or it’s just somewhere lying around and people couldn’t see it XD

And then I had a 1 1/2 week project with Syd Bryan, designer from The Siblings. It was a short project but really great fun, tried out so many techniques, I will be scanning in swatches as well as illustrations soon!

And right now, I have a lingerie project which we have to actually knit the lingerie, and I am super excited about. I decided to go all girly and sweet this time (kinda against my normal style) and make a lingerie set that is Marie Antoinette inspired (simply because I watched the film again the other day). The set consist of a babydoll, a high waisted pants, suspenders and stockings. We have two more weeks for this… so.. Wish me luck, I think i would need it! And I will be doing a photoshoot with the final product too, so look forward to that! 😀

Apart from these, I believe this would be the end of my update. Next time I will come back with more photos~ 😀

Toile for the architecture

It has been quite a while since I updated here. Easter holiday has flew by, and the term has started again. Only the second day in and we have received two new briefs already. The first one is the usual competition brief, this year, we are asked to illustrate a design for the London Fashion WeekEnd tote bag, inspired by the theme ‘Only in London’. I have vague idea of what I want to do, but my illustrations are not great, plus my style is not the usual Tanya Ling or David Downton… so we’ll see how it turns out.

And the second project, was quite a shock actually, because first years usually don’t get 2 projects, but this one is for a boy who was stabbed in East London in August, 2008. He was due to enroll in BA fashion design with Print at CSM the same time as us, so we are creating and DIY-ing T-shirts for money raising, for the medical attention he is needed from now on, because he is paralyzed from neck down.

Anyway, enough about that, I just realised that I haven’t uploaded any photos from my Jersey Project yet, so here it goes. We had to create 6 looks in 3 weeks time, inspired by anything, but mainly to create a sillouhette. However one of the key word was body conscious, so I decided to play with that. I chose Santiage Calatrava’s Architecture because they are just amazing! And I made 7… had some extra time 🙂

So both I and Aiko modeled. Please excuse my terrible modeling 🙂
Enjoy

Emma Bell AW 09/10

Earlier this year, I was approached by Emma Bell to create two knitwear pieces for her collection. She had the overall vision so we went yarn shopping and I came up with the final design. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the fashion show with Vauxhall Fashion Scout but I managed to find pictures on the internet, thanks to MegaMegaMega, so enjoy these photos. Oh and the outfits were worn by the Twins from Big Brother. 🙂

The White Dream

So as I have said in previous post, I had a photoshoot yesterday, and now I have up to date photographs for my projects and things. Mostly the reason I did it yesterday was because it was the only free day I have before my tutorial today. Hopefully it will go okay.

So anyway, in previous posts, I have mentioned about working on a project called ‘the White Project’. We had three topic to choose from, Traditional Borderline, Lovers and your thoughts on Art. I chose the first one, Traditional Borderline.
At first I was looking at the very tradition of Male and Female clothing, and focusing on how I could create menswear with shapes of a woman body. I was particularly drawn to creating interesting shapes because I bought the 2 Pattern magic book from Japan centre and I was so eager to try it all out. However, I was stuck, it was such a surface inspiration that I was stuck and was pretty much repeating myself for a lot of design. So I stepped back having talked to my tutor for the first time and looked at Anthony Gormley, famous for his Angel of the North statue. I like the rigid shapes he created and from this one book, there were all these photographs of the whole ‘process and wrapping’ and I was really inspired by all these, and decided to look at restriction, because when he is creating the mould for the statues, he would be very much restricted in these layers of material and wire and everything!
And for the white project, we had to use cotton and felt only which the uni has provided us with, however this huge shoulder panel that I have in felt was way too big for the 2m of felt they have given us so I had to buy more!!! That shoulder panel took a piece of 3mx1m of felt to make… you might not believe it, but this piece is HEAVY! Oh and I finger knitted the felt into this neckpiece which wrapped around her face pretty much. It was so difficult to move in the dress apparently, but I thank my friend for being such a great model! 😀

So here are the photos, many thanks to Aiko for modelling for me! And for setting up the studio for me so I could take the photos! 🙂 Enjoy. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask
