The White Dream

So as I have said in previous post, I had a photoshoot yesterday, and now I have up to date photographs for my projects and things. Mostly the reason I did it yesterday was because it was the only free day I have before my tutorial today. Hopefully it will go okay.

So anyway, in previous posts, I have mentioned about working on a project called ‘the White Project’. We had three topic to choose from, Traditional Borderline, Lovers and your thoughts on Art. I chose the first one, Traditional Borderline.
At first I was looking at the very tradition of Male and Female clothing, and focusing on how I could create menswear with shapes of a woman body. I was particularly drawn to creating interesting shapes because I bought the 2 Pattern magic book from Japan centre and I was so eager to try it all out. However, I was stuck, it was such a surface inspiration that I was stuck and was pretty much repeating myself for a lot of design. So I stepped back having talked to my tutor for the first time and looked at Anthony Gormley, famous for his Angel of the North statue. I like the rigid shapes he created and from this one book, there were all these photographs of the whole ‘process and wrapping’ and I was really inspired by all these, and decided to look at restriction, because when he is creating the mould for the statues, he would be very much restricted in these layers of material and wire and everything!
And for the white project, we had to use cotton and felt only which the uni has provided us with, however this huge shoulder panel that I have in felt was way too big for the 2m of felt they have given us so I had to buy more!!! That shoulder panel took a piece of 3mx1m of felt to make… you might not believe it, but this piece is HEAVY! Oh and I finger knitted the felt into this neckpiece which wrapped around her face pretty much. It was so difficult to move in the dress apparently, but I thank my friend for being such a great model! 😀

So here are the photos, many thanks to Aiko for modelling for me! And for setting up the studio for me so I could take the photos! 🙂 Enjoy. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask
