So yes, back on this blog after half a year (almost?) I have been tres busy with uni as usual. Last term saw me struggle through with the group project, which luckily is now over and I get to keep a very nice cardigan that I made for the group (9 people..). Photos of that will be posted up sometimes soon, when I have decided to take a photoshoot with all the random bits and pieces I have knitted/made throughout the year.
Anyway, back to the title, yes, we went to Florence for a week back in January for Pitti Filati and it was AMAZING! I have not seen so much yarn samples and companies together in my life before. It was so refreshing to be outside of london and see what the rest of the world and industry was up to.
So there’s always a twist. never just a trip. We had to design a collection based on knit swatches which we developed from research made from any inspiration we had in Florence.
I really liked the idea of clothes hanging off the wall, the idea of soft and hard, and I also really liked the decorative walls outside the Duomo, so I drew inspiration from those and worked mainly with beading my swatches. I really enjoy the process and liked the outcome. Although I know for a fact I could have done more and had more ideas, but up to date, I think this project I have been able to explore and expand on my ideas the most. Unfortunately I have not had the time to make a garment for this project (Had to write an essay about cosmetic surgery and whether it’s a modern necessity for tomorrow), but I have done illustrations . and as a twist, I have scanned in my swatches and ‘coloured’ in my illustrations with them, indicating what the garments would look like if they were to be made, for real.
I am also going to put up some photos which I likes and took from Florence.
